Last November I headed down to Charleston, SC with Mackenzie Morrow and co-star Chris Cashon to screen our music video, “Experimental,” at the South Carolina Underground Film Festival. SCUFF did a great job with projection and sound, so our video looked fantastic on the big screen. As always, it was really cool to watch our work with a room full of strangers. To me there’s no better mode of feedback and no greater reward than this.

We shot “Experimental” in December of 2016 and released it two months later. A lot of time can pass between the day you’re out in the woods freezing your toes off, listening to a weathered piano grunt out its swollen and discordant tune, pushing for just one more take… and the day you actually sit down in the comfort of a theater with an audience and a bag of buttered popcorn. In this case it was nearly two years. Imagine our excitement when were then awarded “Honorable Mention!” I am both thrilled and humbled, and the congratulations goes to Mackenzie for her music and performance, and to all of the cast and crew who made this film with us! Only 18 awards were handed out that Sunday, so we are truly grateful to SCUFF for having us and for recognizing our film (check out the SC Underground Film Fest here: http://www.sc-uff.com/ )

What really made SCUFF great timing for me and Mackenzie is we had just shot our second video the same week of the festival. Sunday Nov. 4 we were on set, and Friday we were in Charleston celebrating! The new video, “Six Months,” has all of Mackenzie’s talent in both the lyrics and her on-screen performance. We edited the video over the winter and released it last month; you can watch the video here.

Though “Experimental” and “Six Months” share some similarities, this song takes on a different tone and I worked with Mackenzie to capture that on screen. Both songs will be featured on her upcoming album release, so keep an eye on mackenziemorrow.com/ to support Mackenzie and get your copy!
